Katie is 5 months old today. We had a little scare with her today. We were feeding her through her nasogastric tube when she started to choke. Then she started gasping for air and bubbles were coming from her mouth. Her NG Tube had come out about 12-15 cm and we didn't know it. We pulled the NG Tube and waited to see what she would do. We called Sheralyn, one of our NICU nurses and she said to turn up the oxygen and probably take her to the emergency room. We watched Katie and she looked okay. Then we got a text from Sheralyn saying the NNP's said to definitely take her to the ER. So off we went. We were seen right away and she seemed to be doing fine. We had her on half a liter and her oxygen saturation was 100. After a long stay and a couple of x-rays later, she is doing fine. We turned her O2 level back down to 1/4 liter and she is just a happy as can be.
Katie is progressing great. She is receiving feeding therapy, occupational therapy and will soon start physical therapy. She loves to talk which for us is something new. Since Tyler had a trach he never made any noises. We love to hear her little sounds and her crys. It is a precious sound.
