We can agree to disagree

We can agree to disagree.

I have been thinking a lot about what happened on Wednesday with Chick Fil-a.  I know Mike Huckabee said lets make Wednesday "appreciation day".  I participated.  We as a family waited in line for about 45 minutes to get some food.  I appreciate that Dan Cathy stood up for his beliefs.  I appreciate all those who waited in line to show their appreciation.

I think every person on this earth has their right to choose whether I think it is write or not.  I know I do a lot of things people don't agree with.  That's fine.  It is their right to agree or disagree. What I don't understand is, if I disagree with someone because of their lifestyle I am called intolerant.  I wanted to know what the actual definition of tolerance is.  According to dictionary.com this is the definition:
"Tolerance:  a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own;"
Unless I am reading this wrong, don't we all have a right to our own opinion?

There was a quote posted on Facebook that I thought was so appropriate.
"Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someones lifestyle you have to fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate." -Rick Warren

"Just because someone supports marriage between a man and a woman does not mean they are against gays." ~Kenyon Curtis

This battle has been waging on for centuries.  Will it stop anytime soon?  No, I don't think it will.  We all need to be respectful towards one another.

I believe we all need to love each other.  I believe we need to respect other peoples opinions.  I believe if because I don't agree with you, you could respect my opinion as I respect your opinion.

WE CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE!

I would love to hears everyones thoughts.  Please be kind and respectful.

This has been on my mind all week. My family participate on Wednesday, too, and ate at Chick fil-a. We wanted to make a statement that in America everyone is entitled to their own opinion and has the right to voice it. Government leaders do NOT have the right to step in and regulate or ban my business because my opinion differs from theirs. That's really what this was about. Free speech is absolutely fundamental to our freedom and must be protected. I happen to also support traditional marriage, but that is a secondary issue. It does seem that we are largely unable to have respectful dialogue about certain issues anymore, and the sources you quoted address this. Unfortunately a double standard exists for tolerance with many people. I have to be sure it is not with me and that I am respectful and teach my children to be also.

AMEN!! This has been bothering me for the past two weeks. Our freedoms hinge on things like this. I agree with what W & J Johnson wrote above - not one elected official has the right to dictate what businesses are welcome or unwelcome. That's for the citizens of this Nation to do. Our fundamental rights are at stake and it's just another glaring example of how much gov't officials across the country are over stepping their bounds. I hope that we can restore honor, integrity and common courtesy to our society. We're on a really slippery slope right now and it has me even more concerned about where we're all headed.

I agree. I don't understand why we have to get so angry with people because their opinion differs from others. Why should people boycott an establishment just because of their belief. The owner of Chick Fil A wasn't bashing the gay lifestyle, he simply stated what he as a person believed in. He wasn't refusing service to anyone and wasn't treating them unfairly. It is so frustrating! I personally don't have a problem with the gay and lesbian lifestyle although I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other on whether or not they should be allowed to marry.

When we do not stand up against something we disagree with we are giving it tacit or implied approval. Just imagine what the original apostils would do or say. Even the Savior could love the sinner but not accept the sin. Those who advocate tolerance and free speech usually do not tolerate it when it disagrees with them.
In the truest since of the meaning or definition of Tolerance and respect: I do not respect or have tolerance for homosexuality. Both definitions imply acceptance of the practice on some level. In the New Testament Sunday school lessons last year, it explained that just watching programs or movies: written by or acted in by homosexuals was to consort with or accept their life style. We should love the person but on some level we must not accept their choice of life style, it is a choice. We have been told no mistakes were made when spirits were placed in bodies. Rick Warren’s two huge lies position, is very true!
